If you'd like to become a Real Estate Salesperson in New Zealand you need to be qualified.

Study this fully online programme and learn about the legal framework, marketing strategies, listing and selling, and develop written and oral communications skills essential to success as a Real Estate Salesperson.

You must complete this qualification before you can be a licensed Real Estate professional.

Upon successfully completing the requirements you'll receive the award of:

Fundamentals of Real Estate

Learn how to apply codes of conduct and legislation in the role of a Real Estate Licensee. Be able to explain land ownership in relation to real estate practice, and discuss laws relating to that ownership.

Law for Real Estate Licensees

Discuss the laws relating to resource management and buildings, along with the implications of these in the real estate context. Learn about the laws of contract, agency and land ownership titles in relation to real estate practice.  

Real Estate Sales and Marketing

Develop positioning strategies and marketing plans to establish a presence in the Aotearoa New Zealand real estate context. Learn about the appraisal and listing process along with the requirements and responsibilities associated with Agreements for Sale and Purchase.

Student Loans and Allowances

This course meets the requirements for student allowance and student loan applications through StudyLink.

  • A student loan helps to pay for your course fees (the compulsory fees), study materials e.g. books, equipment, and living costs. You'll have to pay this money back.
  • A student allowance is a weekly payment that can help with your living expenses while you're studying. You don't have to pay the money back.

Course Entry Information

Entry criteria

To be admitted into this programme, applicants must hold 40 credits at NCEA Level 1 (including 10 Literacy credits and 10 Numeracy credits); or a relevant qualification at NZQF Level 2; or equivalent. Special and Discretionary admission also available.

Real estate standards require proficient communication skills, therefore you must be able to demonstrate the capacity to understand requirements and instructions, and communicate to the required industry level. You must also have a good understanding, knowledge and use of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

Licensing Requirements under the Real Estate Agents Act 2008

Please check your eligibility for a licence by reading Section 37 of the Real Estate Agents Act 2008.

You'll need:

  • Access to a computer and high speed internet service
  • Latest Google Chrome (web browser)
  • Access to a computer and reliable high speed internet service
  • Headset with microphone
  • Webcam
  • Microsoft Word - minimum version 97-2003
  • Microsoft Excel - minimum version 97-2003

English language requirements

International applicants are required to have an IELTS (general or academic) score of 5.5 with no individual band lower than 5 from one test taken in the preceding two years, or meet a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined by NZQA Rules.
