Success factors in a student/tutor research collaboration - Darlyn Chutuape

What makes a self-employed accountant successful? When accounting student, Valerie Poss, asked Business tutor, Darlyn Chutuape, to supervise her undergraduate research on the success factors of self-employed accountants, Darlyn immediately welcomed the opportunity to share her research knowledge with her student.

Collaborating on the project, Darlyn and Valerie even presented their research at the 18th Global Business Conference held in Manila, Philippines which was attended by researchers from the Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Thailand and Canada.

The qualitative study produced meaningful insights. Resilience, the belief that they are in charge of their own destinies, and communication skills stood out as qualities that make the Kiwi accountant tick.

The presentation was a great success and the duo won the award for Best Research Presentation in their group. The research study also went into publication in the Journal of Global Business, an online journal published by the Association of Training Institutions in Foreign Trade in Asia and the Pacific (ATIFTAP).
