StudyLink Troubleshooting
There are a number of common issues that may affect communication between StudyLink and Toi Ohomai.
It is important to know that:
The relationship between Toi Ohomai and StudyLink is governed by strict criteria that include privacy considerations. Toi Ohomai cannot provide information to StudyLink unless they request it. StudyLink, in turn, cannot request information unless they have received notification from you.
Toi Ohomai makes every attempt to provide updated information to StudyLink.
Please note: Student loans will only pay fees that have not already been paid. Toi Ohomai is only allowed to advise StudyLink of your total fees for the period and request payment of the fees outstanding.
The name of the Education Provider on your applications needs to state 'Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology'. Then you can choose the relevant location based on where your course is.
StudyLink can change these details for you if they’ve been added incorrectly.
For assistance, please visit StudyLink's contact us page.
StudyLink typically require supporting documents and evidence to help with the assessment of your loan or allowance application.
If any documentation is missing when you submit it through Connect, this can cause delays in processing.
It’s important to supply all the required evidence, such as:
- A verified copy of your NZ birth certificate or NZ passport, or
- A verified copy of your residency, refugee or sponsorship document, and
- Proof of your bank details (this must show the bank’s logo, your name, and the account number)
- One month's worth of income details (for you, your partner, and/or your parents)
- Loan or allowance contract.
Our kaimahi (staff) can verify most documents for you. Head to our Information Centres for more details.
If you need help knowing what documents are missing, please visit StudyLink's contact us page.
It’s important to check that your enrolment is showing correctly on My Enrolments.
If you’re not properly enrolled, Toi Ohomai is unable to complete the Verification of Study request (VoS) and this will delay your payments.
If you’ve recently changed your enrolment, you will need to ask StudyLink to resend a VoS request to Toi Ohomai.
To fix any issues with your enrolment, please contact us. All other queries related to your student loan or allowance application can be directed to StudyLink.
If it’s your first time applying, StudyLink will send you physical mail in the post to your preferred postal address.
This will include a letter advising any additional information they require, and the relevant contracts for your applications. You will need to complete these, sign them, and send them back via Connect.
If you lose the documents, or they don’t arrive within 5-10 working days, then you will need to call StudyLink to have new ones sent.
When applying for your student loan, ensure that you select ‘Yes’ to the question asking if you’d like the student loan to pay the fees for your course.
StudyLink can change or check this information if you’re unsure.
Having the correct information will mitigate any potential issues and delays in paying your fees.
