Debashis joined the Environmental Team in 2003 and teaches Botany and Vertebrate Biology (Level 5), Biological Statistics, Biosecurity Ecological Restoration (Level 6), and Biosecurity and Ecology (Level 7), besides supervising students who are completing their research projects.

Debashis completed a Master of Science in Botany and a Doctorate in Plant Ecology. His main interests are centered around plant ecology, biodiversity and conservation biology, and he also has a strong interest in biosecurity and the impact of invasive species.
From 2004 to 2011, Debashis taught the Auckland University of Technology’s Terrestrial Ecology course in Tauranga and worked as the Tauranga-based paper coordinator on the University of Waikato’s Applied Terrestrial Ecology course from 2012 -2018.
