Ashlyn McGregor loves working in a flexible industry where things are constantly evolving and no two days are the same. She studied the New Zealand Certificate in Real Estate at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology and is now working in this fast-paced industry.
Martial arts fighter Zaane Walker wants to turn his sport into a career and is grateful for the Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology scholarships supporting his goal. The two-time Under-18 New Zealand Muay Thai champion earned a $5000 scholarship and a $1000 Study Award earlier this year.
It wasn’t easy but Jayden Jensen knows what can be achieved through perseverance after becoming a qualified builder. Jayden’s journey started while he was still at school in Tūrangi and he studied carpentry through the Trade Academy at Toi Ohomai. But that only piqued his curiosity.
Caitlyn Desanges has always enjoyed maths and problem solving, but was keen to stop studying and move from part-time wages to full-time work when she left school. She chased retail roles without success. Eight years on, she is now a management accountant at an ahu whenua trust.
Dannie Allan recently moved from Rotorua to Wellington and had no trouble finding a barbering job. Dannie was originally bouncing between tradie jobs when a stint at his uncle’s barbershop opened his eyes to the alternative career path in front of him.
Tyrone Dyer has been playing the drums since he was 10 years old, but never thought it would lead to a career. After leaving school in Year 12, he set his sights on an electrical apprenticeship, but despite applying to several businesses, he was told he needed a qualification first.
