Tauranga Crossing has launched a new $20,000 scholarship programme aimed at supporting Bay of Plenty students into tertiary study.

The shopping centre has partnered with Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology to offer four scholarships worth $5000 each over the next academic year.

Two scholarships will be awarded to students beginning study in semester two of 2026, with a further two available for those starting their studies in early 2027.

Tauranga Crossing centre manager Janet Vincent said in a media release that the initiative reflects the centre’s ongoing commitment to supporting the local community as it approaches its 10th anniversary later this year.

“For nearly a decade, we have championed the people who make our community stronger,” Vincent said.

The new programme builds on Tauranga Crossing’s Local Legends initiative, which recognised community champions across the Bay. The focus is now shifting towards supporting future leaders through education.

The scholarships come at a time when many students are facing increasing financial pressures associated with tertiary study and are designed to enable recipients to focus on their studies and future career aspirations.

Toi Ohomai marketing and creative manager Tom Worsp said the partnership will help create opportunities for learners across the region.

“Education transforms lives and shapes our region’s future,” Worsp said.

“The Tauranga Crossing scholarships are an investment in local talent, and we are delighted to partner with the Bay of Plenty’s premier shopping, dining and lifestyle destination, which shares our commitment to creating opportunities and pathways for learners across the region.”

The scholarships are fully funded by Tauranga Crossing and administered in partnership with Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology.

Applications for the first two scholarships are now open and close on July 5. Successful recipients will be announced on July 20.
