Junlei teaches in the IT programme area, working with students across computing and information technology courses. He brings an active research and industry background in XR/HCI/AI to his teaching, keeping his classes connected to current developments in the field.
Junlei holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology and a Doctoral degree in using AR to augment human vision from the University of Otago. His research explores how wearable devices like AR glasses can be used to augment human vision, with applications in areas such as GIS and embodied AI.
He has ongoing collaborative ties with researchers in New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Europe, and continues to publish and present at international venues in the VR/HCI space.
In his free time, Junlei enjoys building video games, basketball, fishing and diving.
