MPTT provides free study for Māori and Pasifika people aged between 16 and 40, enrolled and accepted into an MPTT eligible course. Gain valuable knowledge and skills, pathway onto an apprenticeship, employment or higher level of study.
Eligibility
If you are:
- of Māori and/or Pasifika descent;
- a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident;
- 16-40 years of age at the start of your study;
- committed to actively participating in MPTT activities

- New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering, Level 3
- New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Carpentry Strand), Level 3
- New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Joinery/Allied Trades), Level 3
- New Zealand Certificate in Cookery, Level 4
- New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Pre-Trade, Level 3
- New Zealand Certificate in Exercise, Level 4
- New Zealand Certificate in Freestyle Sport Exercise, Level 4
- New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing Professional Stylist, Level 4
- New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Level 3
- New Zealand Certificate in Study & Employment Pathways, Level 4
NOTE: You need to apply for the course you want to do before you apply for the scholarship.
MPTT Scholarships include:
- Payment of your 2026 course fees;
- Guest speaker events, activities and worksite visits;
- Coaching and access to resources to help you keep motivated and on-track;
- Assistance towards getting a full drivers’ licence;
- Support finding a job in your trade or going on to higher levels of study;
- Follow-up sessions after your study has finished to support your career progress.
All successful applicants will be invited to attend a pōwhiri and orientation wānanga at Tangatarua Marae on 5 February 2026; a great chance to meet other students and staff and find out more about what to expect over the year.
