Anne-Marie Simon

Anne-Marie Simon is a seasoned tertiary tutor with over 20 years of experience in Aotearoa’s fashion industry. She is deeply passionate about both education and the arts, and enjoys developing her artistic practice through free-form embroidery, creating evocative, thread-based artworks.

Anne-Marie holds a Master of Educational Leadership (MEd) with First Class Honours. Her research on Mistakes-Based Video Pedagogy (MBVP) has led to several publications, the most recent of which expanded the framework into Hairdressing education, in collaboration with Lynette Smith and Philippa Crombie.

As a finalist in the prestigious National Parkin Drawing Prize, Anne-Marie’s embroidered portrait Sombre was exhibited at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in Wellington. Her most recent work includes a collaboration with Māori artist Linda Munn, where they combined their expertise to create an ensemble inspired by Hine-nui-te-pō. This piece was exhibited at the International Trade Centre in Geneva. This collaboration has further enriched Anne-Marie’s creative journey, deepening her exploration of cultural narratives and reinforcing her commitment to blending tradition with innovation in the arts.
