Acknowledging the mana of mahi toi: An investigation into digital archiving of taonga – Chanel Coromandel
Chanel Coromandel, Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Hine, is a Careers and Employability Facilitator at Toi Ohomai. She is an emerging researcher with an interest in recognising, uplifting, sharing, and preserving the mātauranga and beauty of Māori culture. In Chanel’s recently completed master's dissertation she utilised qualitative interviews with kaimahi at the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute (Rotorua), as well as archivists and museum professionals, to explore how digital systems can effectively preserve and uphold the cultural, spiritual, and relational significance of mahi toi taonga. She is eager to continue her research journey, including presenting her findings at conferences, and publishing in academic journals.
