Tokoroa

Tokoroa is the third largest town in the Waikato region of the North Island and the largest settlement in the South Waikato District. The town is located 30km southwest of Rotorua and midway between Taupō and Hamilton. It boasts a natural beauty, situated between forests with towering pines and dairy farming in the green rolling hills.

Tokoroa is the heart of New Zealand's massive forestry, timber and paper industries. It was originally developed as a residential base for Kinleith Mill, a Carter Holt Harvey pulp and paper plant, and has been the hub of New Zealand’s massive forestry industry ever since. The region is surrounded by hectares of plantation forests and many sheep and dairy farms. The local off-road forest tracks regularly host motor rally and mountain biking events, national hunting and shooting championships, as well as the world-famous Golden Axe and logger sports events.

There are about 14,400 residents in Tokoroa originating from more than 25 different countries. They're open and welcoming to visitors, cultural differences, and new ventures. Each year in September the Tokoroa Polynesian Festival takes place where you can see traditional Samoan, Cook Island and Māori performance.

Visitors can follow the Talking Poles trail through the town centre to learn more about Tokoroa's history and people.
