Criteria

The criteria for selecting scholarship recipients are based on the following: 

1. Demonstrated leadership potential
Demonstrable leadership experience within the school environment. This may be formal, as a member of a school committee of some type (e.g. student representative, sports team), or informally as a person of positive influence upon their peers using their values and behaviours.

2. Cultural/sporting/academic achievement
Demonstrable ability to apply themselves, and excel, in a challenging academic environment; and demonstrable talent in any form of cultural or sporting achievement.

3. Contribution to school/community
Demonstrable commitment to their school and/or community. This includes community groups, associations, organisations, Iwi, Hapu and/or Marae work. This may also include contributions to church, youth groups, clubs, volunteer work and so on.

4. Commitment to study/financial need
An applicant demonstrates academic ability, as above, and is subject to economic hardship that may limit their access to the learning resources needed to study at Toi Ohomai.

  • Your CV detailing how you meet the scholarship criteria (criteria 1, 2, 3)

  • A cover letter which outlines how you became interested in your chosen course at Toi Ohomai, and where this might lead you in the future (criteria 4). Your cover letter can also outline any financial/hardship information (criteria 4).

  • Your first reference letter from a person who knows you well (not family) to support your application against the scholarship criteria.

  • Your second reference letter from a person who knows you well (not family) to support your application against the scholarship criteria.

I declare that this statement is full and true in all particulars to the best of my knowledge and belief. I understand and agree that in applying for this award, if successful:
  • my name, course selection, and photograph may be used for testimonial, advertising, promotional, or public relations purposes by Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology;
  • recipients are encouraged to be active participants in campus life and Student Voice (e.g. applying for student ambassador, class representative, or student council positions);
  • recipients will not be eligible for any other Toi Ohomai administered scholarships in the same academic year.
  • recipients circumstances change (for example you have changed your study plans, or were successful for another Toi Ohomai Scholarship), I will advise the Toi Ohomai Scholarships Office.
